... and nights. We're still trying to figure out whether or not to get a bed rail for his bed. We've been using a body pillow as a barrier to the edge of the bed. Thankfully, he's only fallen out of his bed a few times, and even then it wasn't a hard fall because he fell on the body pillow. Of course, it did startle him, though, so I had to run in and hold him for a little bit to calm him down before putting him back in his bed. Thankfully, each time he's gone back to sleep without further incident.
He has grown really attached to his "Bear" and "Dawwggie" (it's really cute how he says doggie with a southern drawl, though I have no idea how he started doing that!). He must have one or both at bedtime every night. He likes to take one of them with him in the car a lot, too.
Speaking of the way he says things... he can literally repeat just about anything we say now... or at least he'll try to. He's like a little parrot! (Good thing we're not a family that uses words we have to worry about him copying.) He does still say a few things in his own cute little toddler way! He says "fwing" for swing and "byasin" for vitamin (now that he's started taking one Flinstone gummy vitamin a day). He's also picked up on the word "hey!" and so when he wants our attention now sometimes he'll say, "hey mommy!" or "hey daddy!" He says it in a cute little voice and it makes us smile. I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting at the moment. He also narrates things a lot now and may tell every step of everything we're doing. He's definitely a thinker and takes everything in; sometimes the observations he makes are really funny!
You'd probably look at me like I'm crazy if I told you I'm starting to "homeschool" my two-year-old. We've been reading to James practically since he was born and he's developed a real love for books. Sometimes he'll be quiet for a while (which could mean he's into something) and I'll find him in his room totally engrossed in looking through his books (usually with a huge pile of the books he's already looked through all around him). It makes me smile because it reminds me of his daddy when I see him like that. =o) We've been working on numbers and the ABC's with him for a little while now. He can count very easily to 10 and with a few helps he can count up to 20. He also knows all his capital letters and we're working on the lowercase now too since we got some flashcards for him. We've worked on colors a little and he was doing better when we first started but then he got so fixated on "green" that now that's his first guess for anything if you ask him what color something is!We are in our new house, but we're still emptying boxes and trying to find places to put things. (I'm hoping we can be totally settled soon... at least before the holiday season starts!) James is so cute because he always calls it "our new house"... it will be interesting to see how long he says that. Within a day he could show you "James' room," "the baby's room," and "mommy and daddy's room." He's very proud to give people this part of the tour when they come to see the house for the first time. He also can identify our house when we go on walks sometimes, and he recognizes the area and says "we go to our new house" when we're getting close to our neighborhood. (Just a side note: We will have an Open House sometime after things get more settled for all of you who are in town. Don't worry... we'll let you know when it will be.)
Our current big project is putting up blinds. We went out and bought them within the first few days after moving in, but we are still working on getting them up. We've just finished the third one, and I think we're getting the hang of it now so hopefully the rest will go quickly. (I'm also hoping it will help to keep the bedrooms cooler.)
We have several other things we need to do like (1) get the dishwasher hooked up so I don't have to wash all the dishes every night! (2) get the oven gasket fixed; (3) fix an improper patch in the wall (where we can feel cool a/c that we're paying for coming outside); and (4) several electrical-type things (exposed wires on the hot water heater, light in kitchen over sink--where I currently wash all the dishes--that doesn't always work). Anyone know anyone down here who we can get a quote from to do these things? Let me know! =o)
Really, though, we can't complain because the house is in super-good condition compared to most houses we looked at, except for a laundry list of "little things" that need to be done. We only had to give it a good cleaning on the inside (a HUGE thank you to our families who came over and helped us clean, wipe, sweep, mop, scrub, scrape, etc. the inside of this house before we moved in) and Matt painted our bedroom, which needed a fresh coat of paint. Everywhere else was fine as far as needing painting or anything. I'm still trying to get used to keeping the all-tile floor clean, and I'm hoping we can eventually get some area rugs to add some color and help with the dirt.

8/23/08 - James went with Pops and Grandmommy to Fern Forest. Here is is looking over the side at something... maybe some kind of animal? Pops and Grandmommy kept James for us this day so Matt and I could pack some more!
8/29/08 - James watches Grandpa as he puts together one of the bookshelves for his room the day before we move! We tried to get everything ready for James' room so it would be put together before moving day. That way, he could have a place to go and play on that chaotic day.
8/29/08 - James looked how we all felt on Friday night after working so hard to get things ready for moving day... FRIED!
8/30/08 - James loved being around the "big boys" and going in the moving truck. Notice the proud look on his face!
8/30/08 - It had rained the morning of our big move, so of course it was inevitable James would find the puddle in our driveway that morning while we were loading the truck. He was soaked within a minute! I won't tell you who was supposed to be watching him, but his name rhymes with tops. =o) We just threw his wet stuff in the dryer for a little bit... after he had a fun ride from Pops...
9/16/08 - James plays happily with his cars in "James' room." (Notice one of his new "Cars" pop-up storage containers behind him from Aunt Dee!... we're using this one for his dirty clothes! =o) Thanks Aunt Dee!)

9/1/07 - Believe it or not, James was still in his infant car seat because his weight was not enough to have him facing forward in the car yet! However, because he was obviously too long for this seat, we made the transition shortly after this picture was taken.
9/2/07 - Daddy first starts "wrestling" with James on the bed. James still had a pretty toothless grin! =o)
9/11/07 - James enjoyed his spaghetti we ate for Daddy's birthday dinner (as you can see). He was finally starting to eat more table food, but still ate some baby food because he still didn't have many teeth.
9/11/07 - James was walking pretty good by this time. He still had that "new walk" though with the stiff legs and arms out.
9/13/07 - James finally started using some of the sign language we'd been doing for a while. Here he is signing "more" as his mouth is stuffed with banana!
